Before you catch him squaring off with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Star Wars Rebels, take a (time-lapse) look at this phenomenal Darth Maul tattoo.

The video above, spotted on Wales Online, shows off a video of a tattoo being applied by Chris from Physical Graffiti in Cardiff, by an artist featured on the tattoo reality show Epic Ink.

The tattoo, of course, isn’t from Rebels but based on the character’s appearance in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, meaning that it’s even more photorealistic, and even harder to imagine the time that would have gone into the project if we weren’t watching it sped up to just over a minute.

“Maul was done on a client of mine called Rhys Regan just before Christmas at the shop, Physical Graffiti in Cardiff,” the artist explained. “It’s on his Lower back and is the start of a larger ‘Dark Side’ piece. It took around five and a half hours. I’m happy with it – I’ve done Maul a few times, always a fun face.”

And while you’re getting all excited about Darth Maul, get ready for Star Wars Rebels when it returns this Saturday, January 7 at 8:30 pm with a two-part episode titled “Ghosts of Geonosis.”
