The Walking Dead: Five Biggest Reveals In New NYCC Footage

Over the weekend, AMC released a heartpounding new clip from The Walking Dead‘s Season 7 premiere.

In short, the clip showed the aftermath of Negan beating down a member of Rick’s group in front of all of their friends. Fans expect nothing less to kick off the season premiere later this month but the new footage was the first time any of the potential victims were shown since the finale in April.

The Season 7 trailer contained zero new footage of Rick, Daryl, Michonne, Aaron, Glenn, Maggie, Eugene, Abraham, Sasha, Rosita, or Carl.

So, we know at least Rick survives, but the clip also packed a lot more clues and reveals into its breathtaking three minutes.

We will take a closer look at what we can see in the new clip from The Walking Dead‘s Season 7 premiere on the following pages, but, be warned: there are potential spoilers for the new episode ahead!

Blood Spatter

The blood spatter on Rick’s face indicates the location of Negan’s victim. Given that the blood is slapped onto the right side of Rick’s face, one has to suspect the victim is someone immediately to Rick’s right.

Looking at the line-up, you’ll notice that Maggie is diretly to Rick’s right and Abraham is beside her.

Most fans are speculating that it was Big Red who takes the blow from Lucille, spilling his blood on to Rick’s face.

Of course, in The Walking Dead comics, Negan takes a few horizontal swings at the victim’s head so it’s possible that they’re kneeling a few bodies down from Rick as well. All we can take away from this for sure is that Sasha, Aaron, Carl and Eugene are also safe.

Rick’s Hand?

Hardcore The Walking Dead fans are fully aware of the events in issue #28.

Here’s a refresher for those who are not: The Governor cut off Rick’s right hand and for the following almost 140 issues, Rick has ruled with only one hand.

The chopping of Rick’s wrist has been teased several times on the series. Every time he so much as breaks a nail, audiences get into debates over whether or not the hand will come off. Today, though, fans have good reason to believe that Negan might do the job.

The new clip sees Negan take Rick’s hatchet before yanking Rick into the RV. Of course, the dialogue included lots of discussion of “right hands.” 

Could Rick emerge from the RV with one less hand?

Definitely Dead

Some fans were holding out hope for all of the main characters to somehow survive Negan’s introduction. 

That’s over.

The end of the new clip showed Negan’s victim for the first time but, of course, we can’t tell who they are. Their head is bashed beyond all recognition.

They are definitely dead (as if there were any chance at coming back from a baseball bat to the head).

The question remains, though, who is it? As pointed out by the first slide, the folks to Rick’s left are safe. Those brains belong to either Maggie, Abraham, Glenn, Daryl, Michonne, or Rosita.

Daryl’s Blanket

The biggest reveal (and also biggest question mark) of the new clip is hands down the reveal of Daryl’s blanket.

The character was shot by Dwight in the penultimate episode of Season 6 and was last seen being yanked out of the Saviors’ van wearing a green blanket. He wore the blanket throughout Negan’s longwinded speech.

Right next to the remains of Negan’s victim is Daryl’s blanket.

This mean’s that either Daryl was the victim of Negan’s beatdown and the towel was somehow removed from him or someone acted up and Daryl was tossed into the mix and his blanket was left at center stage. It is, however, definitely the blanket he was wearing when we last saw him.

Steven Ogg’s Name

Finally, one more revelation came when the character Steven Ogg plays was revealed.

The actor, known best for his work in Grand Theft Auto V and now Westworld, is Negan’s “right hand man” Simon.

Negan, Dwight, and Simon… The three best friends that anyone could have.

So, everyone, meet Simon. Be nice to him. You never know when it will be his last day on Earth.
