The Walking Dead: Watch Controversial Deleted Scenes Cut From TV

The Walking Dead burst onto the scene in 2010 by opening the series with a haunting sequence.

Sheriff Rick Grimes parked his car at a gas station and explore the abandoned remnants of the world he and fans were exploring together for the first time. The harsh introduction to the world’s horrifying new mechanics came quickly. A little girl, dressed in a pink robe, carried her stuffed bunny across the gas station as her slippers dragged on the ground.

When Rick called out, “Little girl?” she turned around to reveal a terribly damaged face, exposing her teeth and the inside of her skin as she was clearly undead and ready to sink those teeth into Rick. Realizing he had no other option, Rick pulled his gun out and shot the reanimated little girl in the head in a bloody show of violence to launch what would become the largest show on cable within a few years.

The little girl’s shocking sendoff to start the show was only the beginning of what would become a brutal and violent series on AMC. The Walking Dead began to pride itself on a mantra of “no one is safe” as is slayed characters left and right as seasons continued to roll by.

While no moments have earned as much of a controversy spotlight as the brutal deaths of Abraham and Glenn in the Season 7 premiere, that might be because the AMC series has elected to steer clear of moments which could cause controversy among potential viewers.

Not all scenes filmed for The Walking Dead make the cut. Some are removed for time. Some are removed with relevancy being considered. And some of those scenes would have sparked some conversation among viewers looking to start their sentences with, “Did The Walking Dead go too far with…”

Dead Babies

Killing kids not something anybody wants to see in any medium. TV show and movies both tend to avoid the subject. Even The Walking Dead dodged the bullet which was shot in Robert Kirkman’s comics and saw baby Judith killed during the Governor’s raid on the prison in favor of keeping the little one alive and well. 

In Season 4, The Walked Dead avoided the topic of dead kids or babies, once again. As Lizzie, Mika, Tyreese, Carol, and Judith marched down the path which would eventually end at Terminus, they discovered a baby carrier on a dead body’s back on the side of the train tracks.

Oddly enough, this same episode ended up being the one where Carol was forced to shoot Lizzie in the back of the head after she killed her younger sister. So much for keeping the kids safe!

Stump Jokes

Michonne and Hershel’s captivity by the Governor ultimately lead to the latter losing their head. Their journey to that point was an unpleasant one but with this deleted scene from Episode 4×08 (Too Far Gone), Hershel’s final moments were slightly more heroic than we were aware of.

The Governor’s henchman Mitch Dolgen got a little out of hand in his discussion with Hershel and Michonne, insulting the wise older man and implying that he might rape the woman. Upon standing up to possibly do so, he was kicked down and then punched by the Governor.

This scene is reminiscent of Season 7, which saw Negan killing his own man after attempting to rape Sasha at the Sanctuary. The episode air in December of 2013, which was right around the time Sash’a comic book counterpart was rescued from rape by Negan. Whether or not there is any relation to the scene being cut from the AMC series in favor of preserving a similar moment for later on is unknown.

F-Takes

While The Walking Dead can get away with some brutal acts of violence on cable, regulations do not permit the series to use foul language.

Of all the characters effect by this while being adapted from the comics to TV, it’s Negan who undergoes the most significant changes for censorship. However, Rick Grimes has dropped a few F-bombs in his day, too. 

The scene above sees Rick Grimes trapped in a train car at Terminus as shown in the Season 4 finale but when he turns around to motivate his team, the language is a touch less safe for work. It’s hardly the only alternate version of a scene which sees the characters using foul language.
