Regardless, Season 7 has already been packed with epic and shocking moments throughout its first eight episodes. Starting with one of the most brutal and jaw-dropping premieres in television history and taking the characters full circle by the end of its midseason finale, The Walking Dead was an emotional rollet coaster to round out its 2016 run.

On the following slides, we run through some the five best moments of Season 7 which means full spoilers for the first half of the season are eligible!

The Season Premiere

The Walking Dead‘s Season 7 premiere was one of the most shocking and horrifying hours of television since it was invented in 1927.ย

After leaving Season 6 with one of the biggest cliffhangers since we were left wondering what was in the hatch on LOST or whether or not Jon Snow was dead on Game of Thrones, the show had enormous expectations leading into its opening hour. For months, everyone was asking, “Who did Negan kill?”

On October 23, Negan killed not one but two core members of the Alexandria group in gory fashion as Glenn and Abraham met the business end of Lucille. However, the episode cemented itself as one of the best in the show’s entirety when Rick was completely broken down and taken on a brutal emotional ride with Negan and forced to see what he wishes his life became against the harsh reality of what it is now.

7 years in and The Walking Dead managed to flip the script and keep people interested.

The entire episode earns a spot on the list for all of those reasons.

Carl’s Reveal

The Walking Dead is at its best when it follows Robert Kirkman’s work in the comics.

So much has been proven several times throughout Season 7 but never more than when Carl rode a truck to Negan’s Sanctuary and was caught by the villain. Of course, Negan didn’t kill the little Grimes boy. Instead, he forced Carl to remove his eyepatch and expose the horrendous scarring he received from Ron’s stray gun shot in the midseason 6 premiere.ย

It didn’t stop there, though. Carl was forced to sing Negan a song, truly displaying Negan’s ownership of him. The moments were ripped straight from the pages of issue #105 of The Walking Dead comics and will prove to be some of the most iconic of the show going forward.

The Real Ezekiel Stands Up

Episode 7×02, The Well, was one of the best episodes of the entire Walking Dead series. Ezekiel and the Kingdom brought a sense of levity and humor to the AMC series at the perfect time. Just after Glenn and Abraham had their heads bashed in a week earlier, Ezekiel marched around his community talking in a kingly dialect, smuggly greeting his new guests Carol and Morgan.

However, the best moment from the episode was not the introduction of Shiva the tiger or the fact that Ezekiel fills pigs with zombie guts before turning them over to Negan.

In fact, it was Ezekiel’s opening up and revealing his true self to Carol which stands out above all else. The character pulled back the curtain on his kingly act and revealed himself as a former zookeeper keeping the legend of himself alive as to maintain his leadership position.

Unforgettable.

Spencer’s Death

Going back to the “following the comics” thing, Spencer’s midseason finale death was another one of those moments which made readers rejoice as an iconic moment was adapted to live-action.

In issue #111, Spencer does the same thing he did in Episode 7×08. The last remaining member of the Monroe family approaches the villain and proposed putting himself in charge of Alexandria. Negan questions his guts and uses a knife to reveal them in front of the entire community.

Not only was it great to see the comic book moment brought to television but we are finally freed of Spencer Monroe, who has never been anything more than a nuisance to Rick and the group.

Olivia on the other hand… Her sendoff was surpring sad.

The Final Moments

The closing moments of The Walking Dead‘s 2016 run hit fans right in the feels. The first 8 episodes came full circle.

What started with the group on the knees in front of Negan, awaiting the death of their friends, finally became a time of rebuilding and rising to take on the menacing group. For the first time since the Season 7 premiere, Daryl, Rick and Maggie were on screen together. They reunited at the Hilltop for a spinechilling and hope-inspiring moment.

It’s moments like these which keep fans coming back to The Walking Dead and prove the AMC series has fans heavily invested in its characters.ย

Plus, Rick got his gun back. Rise up.
