Negan’s backstory has been one interesting and surprising ride through its 10 four page installments in the Here’s Negan story, so far.
The tenth and most recent issue paired with the Image+ preview magazine had another surprise for fans of The Walking Dead‘s anti-hero. After Negan found himself alone in the woods with all of his fellow survivals succumbing to the apocalypse, a man approached him in the darkness for a friendly introduction.
The man who approached Negan was Dwight. It was the first time anyone has seen the character on pages of The Walking Dead comics without his face being burnt up which, as we know, was a result of Negan’s punishment. Instantly, an additional amount of already abundant sympathy for Dwight is pouring our from fans. The character already lost his girlfriend to the menace and had his face horrendously scarred for misbehaving but now we know it was him who approached Negan in the first place.
Previously, Negan’s story was revealed to be quite heartbreaking. The villain was married and his wife diagnosed with a terminal disease. Instantly, he cut off an affair which his wife was aware of and made every attempt to right his wrongs and show his love to his dear wife before it was too late. When she died just as the world fell apart, it was revealed that her name was Lucille.
Along the way, Negan showed a sympathetic side for kids and other survivors until they proved themselves too weak to take on the apocalypse. He was out for his own preservation at any cost and was not going to let anyone slow him down.
Of course, Dwight appears to be the weaker of the two in the situation given the path he put himself on by simply being a friend and introducing himself to Negan.
Whether or not the Skyboud/Image Comics backstory will be adapted to television is unknown but the team behind AMC‘s The Walking Dead has promised plans to reveal Negan’s history.
Here’s Negan part 10 is available now at your local comic shop, attached to the Image+ preview magazine. The Walking Dead issue #163 also hit shelves today.
