In the aftermath of The Walking Dead‘s Season 7 premiere, a couple of characters have been left as rubble on the ground while others have fates yet to be determined. One thing is for sure: Rick is not in charge anymore.
All of Rick’s right hands have been taken from him except his literal hand. Now, Daryl Dixon is also taken, though not dead. Instead, Daryl is a hostage of Negan’s and will be taken back to his Sanctuary hideout rather than returning to Alexandria with his shattered family.
Speaking to Daryl actor Norman Reedus, ComicBook.com has an exclusive preview of what’s next for the last standing Dixon brother.
“He’s a prisoner of war at this point. He doesn’t know what is going to happen to him,” Reedus said. “Part of him doesn’t care. He goes to a point where this is the shitty world we live in, and the weight of so many things is weighing on him right now that he’s lost the will to fight a bit.”
Daryl is most certainly in the darkest place we’ve ever seen following the events of The Walking Dead‘s Season 7 premiere.

“He goes very, very dark,” Reedus said. “He does certain things that he can’t go back from. He goes to a very, very dark, dark place. It’s a combination of hatred. It’s a combination of self-loathing. It’s different from when he first started on the show. He has a big chip on his shoulder. He thought people wouldn’t like him. He didn’t give a s—. He hates you, too. It turns now into he kind of hates himself. He hates the world that we’re in, and he doesn’t lose the fight in him, but he definitely no longer sees anything good in the world, that’s for sure.”
