Season seven of The Walking Dead had plenty of challenges – both for the characters and the audience. Fans were left excited however, as the midseason finale ended on an incredibly positive note.

The group was back together, and they were intent on taking the fight back to Negan’s front door.

The reunion of the survivors was a great moment, but the tear-jerking hug between Rick and Daryl had fans pumping their fists in the air.

According to executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, that hug between the two was much more than just a meeting between brothers. This was the start of a revolution.

On AMC‘s official site, Hurd was asked about the finale, and she revealed exactly why she loved that reunion so much.

“The losses have been so great and they have been split up, but one of my favorite moments in the history of The Walking Dead TV series was the hug between Rick and Daryl. To me, that was the start of them moving forward.”

Later on in the interview, Hurd drives that point home even further. She says that Rick and Daryl being back together can mean nothing but a bad future for Negan.

“Daryl, who feels an incredible responsibility for Glenn’s death, won’t give in to Negan and he won’t say, ‘I’m Negan.’ Ultimately, he and Rick are reunited, which I think bodes very well for their future and not so well for Negan’s.”

The Walking Dead returns for the rest of its seventh season on February 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC. Fear the Walking Dead‘s third season does not yet have a premiere date but with The Walking Dead finale set for April 2, expectations for Fear‘s return are set for April 9.
