Speaking to The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple on Friday, ComicBook.com learned that the AMC series is wrapping up filming the sixteenth episode of the show’s seventh season.

Showrunner Scott Gimple revealed the status update while speaking to ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview on Friday.

“We are on our last day of production here,” Gimple said. “We’ve got that going on. There’s always drifts and drafts that can happen ater that but this is the official last day of production.”

The Walking Dead‘s seventh season will take a midseason break with a midseason finale set to air on December 9. Historically, the show returns around Valentine’s Day weekend. Of course, the show saw a later premiere date the usual for Season 7, debuting on October 23, later than the expected October 9 or 16. Given the late start, a Valentine’s Day return would make the off-season shorter for fans by a couple of weeks.

“7B’s vibe is very different from 7A’s vibe,” Gimple said. The ending of 7B is very different than the beginning of 7A.”

The recent releasing of titles and synopsis for Episodes 6, 7, and 8 revealed some major spoilers ahead for The Walking Dead. In addition to a new group coming into the mix, the potential for a major character death and groups uniting against Negan appear to be at a high point before the break.
