The Walking Dead is already thanking fans for helping the series reach 100 episodes with promotions for its Season 8 premiere but it will look to pay them back with that new hour’s airing.

A seven year journey for many of the show’s cast members and the fans who jumped on board on Halloween of 2010, The Walking Dead has built a rich history for its characters. The popular AMC will properly pay tribute to those moments with Episode 100 when the Season 8 premiere airs in late October according to executive producer and VFX guru Greg Nicotero.

“In multiple viewings you’ll definitely pick up a few things that we put in there that harken back to earlier episodes,” Nicotero said.

If anyone understands the mythology, world, and history of The Walking Dead, it is Greg Nicotero. Nicotero directs the Season 8 premiere, on the heels of helming the Season 7 finale, premiere, and several episodes in between. Some of the episodes in prior seasons which Nicotero directed are among those held in the highest regard of the entire series.

If the San Diego Comic Con poster promoting Episode 100 was any indication, fans can expect to see The Walking Dead fully honor its journey. Whether or not the series will bring back any of its deceased characters or former cast members for the milestone episode is still unknown but both Glenn actor Steven Yeun and Abraham actor Michael Cudlitz have expressed their willingness to return for more scenes.

In the mean time, the first new look at The Walking Dead Season 8 will arrive on September 10 during a Season 8 preview special airing ahead of Fear the Walking Dead‘s midseason premiere.

The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead returns September 10th. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017. The Season Eight premiere will mark 100 episodes overall for the popular AMC series. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
