The Walking Dead‘s seventh season ended on one ominous note as war began brewing upon the show’s horizon. Over at Entertainment Weekly, a first-look photo of The Walking Dead has been revealed for its eighth season. The photo, which can be found in the gallery below, shows Rick as he walks over to Maggie. The Alexandria leader is shown holding a gun as he places a hand on Maggie’s shoulder. The leader of Hilltop is looking at Rick carefully, and it appears the two are locked in an important conversation about their communities’ impending feud.

The new photo isn’t the only thing Entertainment Weekly was able to give fans. The site also got to chat with showrunner Scott Gimple about the series, and he says The Walking Dead is moving full speed ahead into the ‘All Out War’ comic book arc.

“We have basically set the stage for All Out War,” Gimple explained. “Negan’s said it, everybody has seen they’re in it. It will play out quickly and propulsively and attentively and will shift around the focus quite a bit between the different places and battlegrounds and characters and communities.”

As for what fans can expect from The Walking Dead‘s season eight premiere, they should plan for some intense action. The premiere will mark the series’ 100th episode, and Gimple says it will be packed with action.

It’s really a lot happening simultaneously,” the showrunner promised. “We just want the audience to hold on to their seat as they’re thrown through this thing.”
