Jerry has supplied comic relief to The Walking Dead since joining the AMC series in its seventh season. It appears the actor portraying the loyal Kingdom soldier is also bringing laughs to the set.

While talking to Chris Hardwick on Talking Dead Sunday night, Cooper Andrews shared a story from his first days on set. It didn’t take him long to join the trend of cast members pranking the people around them.

“First day shooting, they gave me three axes. The actual axe is 30 pounds and I hold the real axe the entire time because it looks weird when you’re holding a one pound axe. It gets light. There’s a scene where I swipe at a walker and props guys, Nick, he comes up to and goes, ‘Hey, man. Did you use the rubber axe?’ And I go, ‘There’s a rubber axe?’”

Andrews gave it a beat before coming clean and telling the prop manager that he was kidding but promises that his face was hysterical. After all, Nick did think that Hoover killed an actor covered in zombie make-up for a moment.

Jerry will sit out the next new episode of The Walking Dead as Hostiles and Calamities will be Negan and Eugene-centric. He was, however, heavily featured in the New Best Friends and Rock in the Road. Many fans are quick to root for him using the real axe when it comes to the inevitable war with Negan when an episode comes along to put Jerry and Negan face to face.
