Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 8 follow!

Hardwick used a question from fans to ask the showrunner if Maggie’s baby would arrive before Season 8 comes to an end. Surprisingly, Gimple completely answered the question.

“Maggie’s baby will not be born is Season 8,” Gimple said. “But anything’s possible.”

For the upcoming episodes, the fact that Maggie’s baby is not born in the show’s eighth season is quite revealing for the upcoming 16 episodes, which kick off with the show’s 100th overall…

The Timeline

The timeline on The Walking Dead has never been directly established but there are certain plot elements which help understand how much time is passing.

Maggie was revealed to be pregnant in the Season 6 premiere, 32 episodes back. However, the character has not shown signs of pregnancy since with the exception of the complications which put her and some members of the Alexandria community on a crash course with Negan in the Season 6 finale.

A safe assumption, though, is that Maggie is less than three months pregnant.ย

With Maggie’s baby not being born in Season 8, this indicates the 16-episodes which promise to have an action-packed, fast pace will take place in less than six months time.ย

Potential spoilers for The Walking Dead TV series follow, based on the comic book source material!ย

Fans of The Walking Dead comic know that the birth of Maggie and Glenn’s child is never actually shown in the books. Instead, the time jump which follows the war with Negan and the Saviors is where the baby is born. The first time Maggie’s baby boy is seen in the books, he is more than a year old.ย

With Gimple teasing the time jump to be an accurate guess for the Old Man Rick moment seen in The Walking Dead‘s Season 8 trailer, it seems safe to assume the Season 8 finale will be a conclusion of sorts for the war with Season 9 kicking off after the time jump!
