When fans of The Walking Dead found out that Negan would be introduced on the television series, the biggest question (aside from “who will he kill?”) was how his colorful language would be adapted to television.

Sure, there are “F-takes” on the blu-ray sets with each new season, but when the show airs on AMC Negan can’t be talking about his man parts, using sexually explicit insults, and dropping F-bombs in every other word. Still, AMC has managed to create a character which is defined by his language.
The Season 7 premiere showed Negan’s brutality but Sunday’s The Cell episode showed what the man is capable of with his words. The menace manipulated his men, including Dwight, and got in the head of Daryl Dixon through weird metaphors and blunt insults.
Let’s take a look at our five favorite lines of Negan’s from The Cell…
(Be warned: spoilers follow)
Everything is Awesome
Negan seems to think he has it all and all of it is awesome.
Not only did he introduce his lovely Lucille by saying, “She is awesome,” a few episodes back, but he thinks just as highly of his Sanctuary home.
“Are you overwhelmed by the awesomeness of this?” Negan asked Daryl at one point.
Furthermore, he thinks his relationship with Dwight is “totally cool” and almost pities Daryl for not riding the Saviors train…
“Which sucks because your life was about to get so much cooler!” Negan said.
Everything is awesome! Everything is cool when you’re part of a team.ย

Babbling Babboon
Daryl was put through the ringer in this episode. He was fed dog food, subjected to some really annoying music, shown a picture of his dead friend, and beat up by a group of Saviors.
To top it all off, Negan mocked Daryl during one of his many monologues.ย
The villain offered little Dixon a drink and mocked him, asked if he needs a straw after the beating he took.
“Your mouth is all puffed up like a babboon’s ass!” Negan said.
It’s the type of metaphor we’ve come to know and love (to hate) from The Walking Dead comics. ย
Not Thirsty?
Negan’s language reached it harshest when he offered Dwight a “blast from the past with you know who.”
After Dwight turned down Negan’s kind offer, the villain was surprised to see his generosity turned down. Dwight insisted his job wasn’t done yet, so he hasn’t earned it.
A confused Negan had a bold response.
“I just said that it was happy hour at the pussy bar and Dwight eats for free and you’re telling me no,” Negan said.
Such language is unexpected on cable television but given the unpredictable nature of Negan’s actions and word choices, it’s no more a surprise than it is true to the character.ย
Thirsty!
For a brief moment, fans thought Negan might actually kill Daryl. Really, it would have been Lucille who killed Daryl because she is a vampire bat constantly thirsty for blood.
Luckily for Daryl, Lucille was not thirsty on Sunday night.
However, Negan was.
“Lucky for you, she’s not feeling too thirsty today,” Negan said. “But I am. So I’m gonna go get me a drink!”
The man in charge of the Saviors doesn’t take anything seriously. After a serious moment of confrontation with Daryl, Negan still found a way to make the situation one big joke and walk away while Daryl got beat up in the background.ย
Lean Back
We shouldn’t laugh but we did.
After Dwight dismissed Negan’s generous offer mentioned earlier in this slide show, a call came in about a man who had escaped the compound. Dwight insisted on taking it despite Negan saying he is above such work at this point.
“That is grunt work,” Negan said. “Why don’t you have Fat Joey go and do it? God knows he needs the exercise.”
Fat Joey is probably a really nice guy. It’s just the fact that Negan can so casually insult people and carry on as if it were a standard form of conversation. There just so many reasons we love to hate Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan.
