In the sixth episode of The Walking Dead‘s seventh season, fans were given a mystery regarding the fate of Heath. The character escaped from a group of walkers on a bridge, but Tara discovered that he went off in some kind of vehicle.

No one knows if Heath was alone, kidnapped, or even alive when the tire tracks were found. All that anyone can confirm is that Heath is no where to be found.
While this idea is surely part of the on-going story for The Walking Dead, the character needed to be gone for Corey Hawkins to lead the new Fox spin-off series, 24: Legacy. It’s likely that there wasn’t time for the actor to have a prominent role in both series, so Heath was written out.
There’s been no word as to whether or not Heath will return to the show, but a Hawkins revealed – in a recent interview with Yahoo – that he’s had conversations about it. The kicker here, though – he’s entirely committed to his role in 24.
“Listen, [TWD showrunner] Scott Gimple is a genius and master in how he’s been able to continue to craft the show,” says Hawkins. “We’ve been in conversations about it.”
The actor went on to explain that he is more focused on 24, for obvious reasons.
“We all joke about how there’s like a red [laser] dot that appears โฆ like somehow, someone’s lurking in the closet, and as soon as you open your mouth about The Walking Dead, it’s like, ‘Uh-oh,’ you know?” Hawkins jokes. “I’ll just say that we’ve been in conversation about it, and how we could make this work. My obvious priority right now is Eric Carter.”
Heath could return to The Walking Dead at some point, but that chance will likely be shot if 24: Legacy is successful.
