What better place to find out you have a kid that you didn't know about that a pool at San Diego Comic Con? For Jon Bernthal, that's exactly what happened over the summer of 2016.
The Walking Dead Season 7 was deep into production by the tie San Diego Comic Con rolled around last summer. It had filmed about half of its 16-episodes. So, Episode 7x04 was a thing of the past for Andrew Lincoln and company which means he had already filmed the scene for Service in which Rick tells Michonne that Judith Grimes is not actually his biological daughter. Instead, she is the daughter of his old friend and police partner Shane Walsh.
For Lincoln, the matter is not one which he is fond of. It's something he blatantly expressed during a panel at Walker Stalker Con in London, over the weekend.
"Do you know what?" Lincoln said. "I'm still not happy about that."
However, Lincoln is not alone in his frustration with the fact that Rick is raising someone else's child. The man who played Shane, who attended San Diego Comic Con to promote his role as the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, had a surprising reaction to the news while hanging out in a pool with Lincoln between events.
"We did Comic Con this year and Jon Bernthal and his family were all there," Lincoln said. "We were all in the swimming pool, just chilling out. I had to tell him just because I knew that Jon would want to know that it was his child even though he's not been in the show for four year, I kind of knew what kind of actor Jon Bernthal was."
It was once Lincoln opened his mouth about the news that Bernthal got animated.
"He was like, 'What! No. No, no, man,'" Lincoln said. "He was so angry about it."
In an almost apologetic tone, Bernthal expressed one major regret.
"He was like, 'I wish I'd known!'" Lincoln said. "'I want to re-do my scenes, again,' was basically what he was saying."
Shane Walsh, however, would likely have a completely different reaction than the man who portrayed him. The character would take great pride in having his offspring survive in the world of The Walking Dead. While we will never know what a world of The Walking Dead would be like if Shane had survived beyond the series' second season, we can imagine it by check out a batch of scenes which add the character into its key moments.
