James Gunn is a genius when it comes to choosing songs to pair with scenes in his Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Sometimes, the choice accurately reflects the moments taking place in the characters’ lives. Other times, the musical selection is completely ironic.

One fan of Gunn’s work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and AMC’s The Walking Dead paired the opening song of the recent Marvel Studios films with the epic battle sequence which concluded the seventh season of the zombie drama. This certainly fits one of those ironic use scenarios but credit goes to both the fan and Gunn for finding a song which so perfectly matches action sequences.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the song was used in a continuous opening shot for the film which followed Baby Groot amidst the chaos of a battle between the Guardians and an Abelisk. The dancing performance for Groot was actually captured by cameras following Gunn as he grooved to the song.
For The Walking Dead, the scene above was only the beginning of a massive war on the horizon. Negan being chased out of Alexandria is only one of many battles which will follow between his Saviors and the communities rallying behind Rick Grimes.
In either property’s case, the relief of a little melody is sometimes completely necessary.
