AMC has released an extended sneak preview from The Walking Dead 8x07, "Time for After."

Per the official synopsis, "Negan has to enlist the help of his lieutenants in solving a huge issue facing the Sanctuary; Rick and the group continue to enact the plan."

"If things don't get fixed soon, a lot of people are gonna die," Negan tells Eugene, who sits like a kid in the principal's office. "My people. Not me, of course. I'm living no matter what. I am too good at this sh—t. But others. I can't have that. I don't want to see people get shot up, chewed up and chewing up the rest. I don't wanna see you get eaten, Eugene. This place… it's about pooling and organizing strength."

Negan closes in.

"And you, my friend, are strong," he says. "That spongy organ between your eyes and your spectacular mullet is strong, and I just want to make sure that you know that I know that."

"Consider me made," says Eugene, and he is. "Our pages are utterly and completely one and the same."

Actor Josh McDermitt promises the mullet-sporting turncoat is wholeheartedly Team Negan, saying Eugene switching sides isn't a ruse.

"He's with Saviors, he's on team Negan, he's looking out for himself," McDermitt said of Negan's newest lieutenant. "He's thinking about self preservation, just trying to continue to live in this apocalypse."

Despite Eugene's betrayal, there's a possibility he's still Team Family — and with Eugene having figured out that Dwight is the mole sabotaging the Saviors from within, the question of where his loyalties truly lie will be answered in how Eugene responds to this new information.

After all, he's under threat from Negan: in episode 8x05, the intimidating baddie confronted Eugene, propositioning him the way the bully subjects his victim while pretending they're friends. If he solves the problem outside — that problem being the sea of walkers currently surrounding the Sanctuary, effectively trapping everyone inside — he'll be made happy. If not, Negan says, he'll kill him.

"Dr. Smarty Pants. Big, big chance here. You solve this thing with the bad smelling convention outside... I will make you very, very happy. But even if you try your best — and I know you try your best — but you don't figure something out, I assure you I will kill you quickly so you don't have to see all the awful, horrific things that are gonna go down here when we run outta food and water. What I'm saying... is that I got your back, either way. You got mine?"

Eugene nods.

As shown in the preview for 8x07, Dwight tells Eugene the Sanctuary will fall — and all he has to do is keep his mouth shut. Letting Dwight's scheme run unchallenged would solve Eugene's problem, but he's first and foremost a coward. If Eugene stays silent, there's a chance Negan's regime is toppled by Rick and company, but he risks Dwight's plan failing which results in him possibly being pointed to as a conspirator. If he points fingers and names names, he does what he does best — covering his own ass — and he stays in Negan's good graces, but he effectively blows any chance he has of getting out from under his boot.

Eugene's decision is clear. Whether or not he'll have the bravery to make the right choice will be answered this Sunday at 9/8c.
