In the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead, it always seemed that Negan and his saviors knew where Rick and the rest of Alexandria were going to be before they did, which led to that now iconic last scene.

On The Talking Dead, showrunner Scott Gimple was asked: “how are the saviors always one step ahead of Rick’s group?”. Gimple had this to say.
“They have vast resources, there are a lot of people, and in this episode, episode 16, they have been watching Alexandria. They know a lot about it. They see which direction they’re going and they put their plans into motion.”
Chris Hardwick also raised the point that “there are only so many routes a large RV can go from one place to another.” Regardless of how careful you are, at some point, the numbers advantage is going to catch up to you. Gimple also said the blocks we saw werent the only ones the saviors set up.
“And I would say that the places Rick and co. ran into, weren’t the only places with blocks. There were a lot of blocks we didn’t see, but that would be super weird.”
Rick and his group seem to always find a way through things, but this time, it doesn’t look like they will be able to get out unscathed.
