Every Star Trek Star Who Also Appeared in Stargate

Some of the best Star Trek stars also appeared in the various Stargate shows. There’s a sense in which the ’90s were the golden age of the Star Trek TV shows. Star Trek: The Next Generation was still going strong when the decade began, soon joined by Deep Space Nine and Voyager. But this was also the decade of Stargate, with Stargate SG-1 launching in 1997.

Given the timeline, it’s perhaps no surprise there’s a good deal of crossover between the cast of Stargate and Star Trek. Some of these are relatively minor characters, but quite a few stars played significant roles in both franchises. Here are all the top names.

11) Ronny Cox

Let’s start with Ronny Cox, who played Edward Jellico in Star Trek: The Next Generation. A harsh and abrasive figure, he briefly took over the Enterprise while Picard was off on a secret mission, and it didn’t go well; he went on to become an admiral, with Cox recently reprising the role in Star Trek: Legacy. Cox joined Stargate: SG-1 as Senator Robert Kinsey, a corrupt politician who objected to the Stargate project on ideological grounds, and who ascended to the rank of Vice-President before his corruption was ultimately exposed.

10) John de Lancie

You probably know John de Lancie best as Q, the extra-dimensional being known for causing no end of trouble for Jean-Luc Picard. He joined Stargate: SG-1 as Colonel Frank Simmons, a member of the National Intelligence Department (NID). A branch of the U.S. government, the NID frequently clashed with Stargate Command, and Simmons caused serious problems for SG-1 – even shooting Colonel O’Neill in the arm and the back during one black op. Simmons became a recurring villain, ultimately possessed by a Goa’uld symbiote and blasted out an airlock.

9) Marina Sirtis

Marina Sirtis is one of only two members of The Next Generation‘s main cast to play a role in Stargate. Best known as Counselor Deanna Troi in TNG, she appeared in SG-1‘s Season 4 episode “Watergate” as a Russian soldier named Svetlana Markov. An envoy to Stargate Command, she had spent extensive time working with the ill-fated Russian Stargate team.

8) Colm Meaney

Colm Meaney’s Miles O’Brien is the only other Next Generation star to join Stargate. Originally a background character (he even appeared in the TNG pilot), O’Brien became a recurring character in his own right, and eventually joined the cast of Deep Space Nine to boot. In 2004, Meaney debuted in Stargate: Atlantis Season 1 episode “Underground.” There, he was leader of an alien race called the Genii, a sworn enemy of the Atlantis mission.

7) Renรฉ Auberjonois

The late Renรฉ Auberjonois is, of course, celebrated as Odo – the Changeling Chief of Security in Deep Space Nine, and one of the show’s most beloved characters. He wasn’t quite so sympathetic in Stargate: SG-1, though, where he played a Nazi-like leader of supremacists. The villainous Alar met a brutal end when Colonel O’Neill ordered the iris of the Stargate to be closed, aware Alar was about to follow him through.

6) Armin Shimerman

Odo’s nemesis, Armin Shimerman played the Ferengi wheeler and dealer Quark in Deep Space Nine. The actor also appeared in one episode of Stargate: SG-1, playing an alien named Anteaus. Like the rest of the Nox, Anteaus initially believed the SG-1 team were assassins. He eventually came to trust them.

5) Nicole de Boer

Nicole de Boer’s Ezri Dax was a relatively unpopular addition to the cast of Deep Space Nine, in large part because she stood in the shadow of Terry Farrell’s Jadzia Dax. Ezri became the new host for the Dax symbiont after Jadzia’s death, and she got hurried character development in the show’s final season. In Stargate: Atlantis, de Boer played Doctor Alison Porter, a scientist who joined the expedition in Season 5 and only appeared in one episode.

4) Robert Picardo

Robert Picardo is, of course, one of the most popular actors in Star Trek: Voyager. Playing the ship’s Emergency Medical Hologram, he has some of the best development in the entire show, and an enduring legacy in the franchise. The actor went on to become a major recurring character in Stargate, Richard Woolsey, making his debut as a high-ranking member of the National Intelligence Department who initially opposed Stargate Command. Eventually changing his mind, Woolsey was actually appointed commander of the Atlantis expedition in Stargate: Atlantis Season 5.

3) Connor Trinneer

Connor Trinneer’s “Trip” Tucker was one of the main characters in Star Trek: Enterprise, Captain Archer’s chief engineer and second-in-command. Trip is often cited as a relatable “everyman,” a wonderfully relatable hero who would ultimately sacrifice himself to save Captain Archer (according to the series finale). In Stargate: Atlantis, he played the remarkable Michael Kenmore, a human-Wraith hybrid created using the Iratus bug retrovirus. Calling himself “Lastlight,” Michael became a terrifying force to be reckoned with.

2) John Billingsley

John Billingsley is best known for playing Dr. Phlox in Star Trek: Enterprise, the Denobulan chief medical officer of the Enterprise. In Stargate, he played Doctor Simon Coombs, a scientist who occasionally worked alongside SG-1. Appropriately enough, Coombs was a huge fan of Star Trek.

1) Jolene Blalock

Jolene Blalock played Commander T’Pol in Enterprise, the first Vulcan to serve aboard a human ship. T’Pol’s loyalties soon became divided between her people and her crew, giving her a delightful arc over the course of Enterprise‘s four seasons. The actress also appeared in two episodes of Stargate: SG-1, playing a rebel high priestess named Ishta who shared a kiss with Teal’c.
