Warning! Spoilers for Doctor Who’s season ten finale lie below!

The Doctor is no longer at the BBC, and fans are still reeling from the emotional fallout. The network aired its tenth season finale of Doctor Who recently, leaving fans to watch the 12th Doctor as he prepared to regenerate. The episode also bid goodbye to Missy and The Master, but the Time Lady’s exit could have gone a whole lot differently.

Recently, showrunner Steven Moffat sat down with RadioTimes to talk about his impending exit from Doctor Who. The writer will leave the sci-fi series alongside Peter Capaldi this December, but Moffat jokingly considered making Missy pregnant before her bow-out.

Mofatt says he came up with the insane idea of Missy fathering a child with John Simm’s Master after running into Russell T. Davies.

“He [Davies] is going ‘Oh my god the dialogue! Oh god how brilliant. Oh my godโ€ฆthey’re going to, aren’t they?’ I said Russell, it’s a children’s showโ€ฆ we can’t do that. But we concocted this whole scheme that I’d cliffhanger out of my era on Doctor Who โ€“ handing over to Chris [Chibnall] โ€“ with Missy telling the Master and the Doctor that she’s pregnantโ€ฆ Over to you Chibs, sort that one out! [laughs]”

Of course, the controversial pregnancy would have been a nightmare for Doctor Who‘s next showrunner to handle. Chris Chibnall will take over Moffat’s spot with Doctor Who in season eleven. The pregnancy storyline was never considered to be a serious one judging by Moffat’s teasing tone, but the idea will surely spawn a new generation of fan-fiction. After all, how does Gallifreyan spawn work out when their parents are – well – the same person.

Despite being the same person, Missy and the Master shared some borderline sexual tension throughout their romp in season ten. The finale ended with the pair turning on one another to die by each other’s hands, so Chibnall should not be worried about any confounded Time Lord children anytime soon. That is, unless he wants the Doctor to get into some real weird shenanigans once they regenerate.

Steven Moffat will hand over the reins of Doctor Who to Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall for Season 11. Chibnall is a longtime Doctor Who fans who has written for the series during the Russell T. Davies time and acted as head writer on the Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood.

Doctor Who Season 10 introduced Pearl Mackie as the Doctor’s new companion Bill Potts. The newcomer replaced the previous companion Clara Oswald once Jenna Coleman left after Season 9. Whether Bill will join the new Doctor in Doctor Who Season 11 is still unknown, but fans don’t seem to think the companion will carry on with the Time Lord for much longer.
