Riverdale is just two episodes away from wrapping up its first season, and the penultimate showing before the finale promises to reveal the answer to the mystery that’s plagued the once-idyllic small town: who killed Jason Blossom?

But finding out who killed Cheryl’s twin brother isn’t the only issue she’s facing in the show’s inaugural season, as the crimson-haired cheerleading captain is having to contend with other familial issues.

Ahead of this week’s episode, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed to EW that Cheryl’s issues with her parents might boil over in the coming episodes, as evidenced by her lie at the end of last week’s show when she told her parents that she didn’t keep Nana Blossom’s ring.

“She loved her brother and her brother loved her, and that’s been taken away from her, so in a weird way, even though we’re following Jughead and Betty’s investigation of the crime, what’s pulsing underneath is always that this essential part of her life is goneโ€ฆ So even though she’s not investigating, I feel like there’s a deep question and devoid in her that has to be answered and filled.”

That’s a pretty cryptic hint for one of the series antagonists, but maybe a change of heart is around the corner for the character.

UP NEXT: The Gang Finds Out Who Killed Jason In “Anatomy of a Murder” Teaser

Riverdale threw a red herring at viewers earlier in the season when Madelaine Petsch’s character was questioned by the police in relation to the murder, revealing that Jason did not drown but ran away. But when his body was found with a bullet wound, her shock and horror at the development became a clear indicator that she doesn’t know what’s going on.

The show is hinting that Jason and Cheryl’s own parents might know more about the murder than they’re letting on, especially with the weird and vast collection of wigs and that they had the ring. Plus, they already got Hiram Lodge thrown in jail. What aren’t those twisted maple mavens capable of?

Riverdale will solve the mystery on the next episode, but we’re betting there are plenty more twists and turns in store for the sleepy small town before the season ends.

Check out the synopsis for the next episode below.

In “Anatomy of a Murder,” Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) are shocked to learn of the arrest but know they need to come clean to their parents about what they uncovered.Still hurt by the betrayal of his friends and torn over who to trust, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) reluctantly joins them in a quest for truth.Meanwhile, Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) confronts her mom about why she treats her so much worse than she ever did with Jason.
