Thanks to a report from TV Line, fans have learned Warner Bros. is working on a live-action show for The Jetsons. The series is set to remake the classic animated series Hanna-Barbera aired in the 1960s, but there are few details surrounding the series as of yet.
Right now, Warner Bros. has declined to comment on the report, but a TV Line source did confirm the studio will being shopping around the project soon. The report suggests Family Guy executive producer Gary Ganetti will oversee the live-action remake. The producer is expected to work alongside Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke on the series. Jackie Levine will act as a co-executive producer. Warner Bros. will then produce the series alongside Nickleby Inc. and Compari Entertainment.
This is not the first time an attempt has been made to revive The Jetsons. Back in 2015, Deadline reported work was underway on a full-length movie for the futuristic family. Matt Liberman was tapped to write the film’s script, but the project fell through. The project made a return earlier this year when news broke that the animated feature was still on. The director of Sausage Party was tapped to oversee the film, leaving Conrad Vernon to leave his mark on the classic series.
If you are not familiar with The Jetsons, then you should know the family is one of animation’s most famous clans. Hanna-Barbera debuted the sitcom back in 1962 and told the story of a truly space-age family. George and Jane were the far-out parents of children Judy and Elroy. The Jetsons aired on prime time between 1962-1963 and has aired over the years on syndication.
When it comes to live-action adaptations, Hanna-Barbera is not a complete novice. The Jetsons acts as the futuristic counterpart to the company’s other iconic sitcom The Flintstones. The Stone-Age family got its own live-action movie back in 1994 starring John Goodman and Rosie O’Donnell.
