The main event of WWE’s Clash in Paris certainly had potential with a lineup that included Seth Rollins, CM Punk, LA Knight, and Jey Uso, as well as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line. The match itself managed to deliver on those expectations as well, though the match’s final moments were the true tipping point, sending the crowd into shock while also furthering one of the best feuds in WWE by screwing over CM Punk once more.

Rollins didn’t have his usual crew at ringside for the Fatal 4-Way thanks to events earlier in the night, which led to his allies being thrown out of the building and threatened with suspension if they returned. That meant Rollins was truly on his own against Knight, Uso, and Punk, but it turns out he had one more ace up his sleeve, as Becky Lynch showed up in the final moments to help her husband and cost Punk the WWE World Heavyweight Championship once more.
Becky Makes the Save
Lynch’s eventual involvement started earlier in the night when Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker viciously attacked Roman Reigns after Reigns took out Paul Heyman, sending Reigns to the hospital after the beatdown. Adam Pearce then had them ejected from the building, and if they returned, he threatened to suspend them indefinitely. That was enough to keep them away, which left Rollins on his own, or so we thought.
Rollins teased in a later promo that he was still 5 steps ahead of everything, and he was fully confident he could retain his Title on his own. The match would see Knight, Uso, and Punk all teaming up at several points to take out Rollins, but Rollins managed to survive those onslaughts and stay in the match.
That led to a one-on-one scenario between Rollins and Punk, with Rollins putting a chair around Punk’s neck to knock him out of the match and possibly out of action permanently, but Punk dodged the move, causing Rollins’ leg to go crashing through the chair. Rollins seemed to hurt his leg (legitimately this time), and Punk capitalized, hitting Rollins with a GTS.
Then Rollins ended up bouncing off the ropes and right into position for another GTS, and it truly appeared that Punk would recapture the Title. Then a mysterious person raced into the ring in all black and hit Punk with a low blow, causing him to drop Rollins and fall to the mat. The person then took off their hood and mask, revealing themselves to be Becky Lynch, and she would taunt Punk a bit before Rollins hit Punk with the curb stomp, winning the match and retaining his Title in the process.
What This Means For The Future
There are several intriguing angles to this development, with the first being that two of WWE’s best heels are now aligned on television. While the real-life couple have experienced big heel runs, they hadn’t really interacted much on TV. Now that has drastically changed, and it remains to be seen how much interaction both will have with each other as things move forward.
This isn’t the first time they have been involved with each other’s stories on TV, as they had a previous story that teamed them up during a babyface run. Lynch isn’t as high on that previous story, but this time, things are immensely different in terms of where both are in their stories and general careers, so a move like this actually makes all the sense in the world.
There’s also the possibility that Punk brings in some reinforcements now that Lynch is involved, and that brings us to what could be one of the most anticpated WWE returns ever. Punk’s real-life wife is AJ Mendez, known in WWE as AJ Lee, and fans have been wanting to see Lee return to WWE for years. If we are getting a mixed tag match angle, this would be the perfect spot for that to happen, and fans would understandably lose their minds.
Lynch has been killing it as a heel since returning, and adding her to any segment involving Rollins or Heyman should only raise the entertainment factor tenfold. If she has any sort of significant involvement with The Vision as a faction, this would also provide another fresh element to the group and a Heyman faction overall, and that also makes any of Lynch’s future matches that much more unpredictable, since you could see The Vision help her out down the road.
Even if this is mostly a one-off and the two are more separate moving forward, this was still a great moment that makes sense within the overall story, playing into Rollins’ ability to make any situation work in his favor. Plus, you can revisit Lynch’s involvement in big moments or event spots, which would probably keep it all fresh anyway. Either way, this was a brilliant move and one that nobody was expecting, and it sent Clash in Paris off with a bang.
