Are you ready, kids? Aye, aye Captain! Grab your scuba gear, because we’re heading to Bikini Bottom — Nickelodeon President Cyma Zarghami has confirmed a third feature-length SpongeBob SquarePants will be made.

In a quarterly call with investors, Zarghami mentioned that “there will definitely be another SpongeBob movie.”
A third movie — featuring the sea creatures we’ve come to know and love the ten-plus seasons SpongeBob has run on Nickelodeon — has been talked about for a few years, last being brought to light by both the official Viacom Twitter page as well as storyboard artist and art director Vincent Waller in 2015.
The new movie will follow in the footsteps of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015), both of which had reasonable success at the box office. Together, the movies earned $465.3 million on a budget of $104 million between the two movies.
Outside of official confirmation from the highest person on the food chain at Nickelodeon, little information has been released about the next film foray into the world of SpongeBob.
SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as a global pop culture phenomenon since first premiering on Nickelodeon in July 1999. The series has been the most-watched animated program for more than 14 consecutive years, and is seen in over 185 countries and translated in more than 50 languages. The character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimistic and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends.
