It hasn't been long since the Fairy Tail manga came to an end, but fans of the series are already begging for a revival. Weekly Shonen Magazine published Hiro Mashima's final chapter back in July, leaving millions of fans to mourn over the manga's end - but the series may not be gone for too long.

After all, Mashima did admit just recently he'd like to see Fairy Tail continue.

The creator of Fairy Tail is in the U.S. right now for a few scheduled appearances at New York Comic Con. During one of the panels Mashima attended, a fan asked the artist if he'd consider expanding the Fairy Tail series and continuing its journey.

"I just finished the series recently, so as of this moment I'm not thinking about it yet," Mashima said via a translator.

"But there's a lot of people who want to see how the story goes from here," he continued. "So, if there's enough fans who want to see more Fairy Tail - whether I write it or it's somebody else's - I'd definitely like to see Fairy Tail expand."

Of course, fans who read Fairy Tail's final chapter know it left open the perfect segue into a sequel. The manga's 545th chapter left off with Natsu barging into Lucy's apartment to nab her for a job. The pair have a touching conversation before they rush outside to meet with Erza, Gray, Wendy, and more. With Natsu leading the pack, the Dragon Slayer reveals he got permission for the gang to undertake a special mission.

"I told you I wanted to do something after the fight ended," Natsu admits. "I finally got permission. A 100 Year Quest!! I'm fired up!!!"

The manga ends with the Fairy Tail wizards heading off on their new adventure, so Mashima - or another writer - could detail what goes on during the quest. Series such as Naruto and Dragon Ball have lived on after their original creators parted ways with their stories, so Fairy Tail could do the same if Mashima allows. So, if fans are lucky, Natsu might return to print in a few years if the demand calls for it.

If you are not familiar with Fairy Tail, then it is about time you familiarized yourself with the story. The series follows a guild of young, powerful wizards who call Fairy Tail family. Set in a fictional Earth, a boy named Natsu teams up with an unlikely friend Lucy Heartfilia as the latter dreams of becoming a powerful wizard. To date, there are more than 250 episodes of the acclaimed series, and fans can expect more to come in the new year.

To date, several million copies of Fairy Tail have been sold worldwide. Published by Del Ray in the west, there are over 35 million volumes of the manga in circulation at the moment. Kodansha Comics is now overseeing the release of Fairy Tail projects in the U.S. and other western territories, and the licensing return has helped the publisher amass popularity. Other series like Attack on Titan have also helped bolster Kodansha's visibility outside of Japan, so fans can expect the company to continue pushing out new content as it becomes available.
