Attack on Titan has a history of making fans wait for its anime, but Wit Studio is looking to change that reputation. Earlier this year, the anime returned with its second season following a lengthy hiatus, and its third season is now slated to debut next summer.

Earlier today, the official website for Attack on Titan updated itself to give fans a heads up about season three. The anime is now slated to drop its next season in July 2018 with a new compilation film proceeding it in January. So far, there is no exact date connected with the update premiere, but fans can expect to learn more after the new year comes around.

If you have not kept up with Attack on Titan's renewal, then you should know the July 2018 date is a tad controversial. When the anime confirmed it was getting a third season, sites like Funimation led fans to believe Attack on Titan would return in April 2018. The first date was never confirmed by Wit Studio, but the July 2018 date is making some fans fear Attack on Titan is about to go down a rabbit hole of delays.

However, there are other fans pushing back against the assumption. With Attack on Titan set to return in July 2018, Wit Studio has more time to give the third season an extended episode order. The show's second season was only one cour, a fact which shocked fans and prompted many to boycott the anime at first. Wit Studio will have ample time to lengthen its episode order for season three if it has until next July, so fans are looking forward to seeing just how long this new season will last.

If you are not familiar with Attack on Titan, then you should know the popular anime is renowned for its intense action and gritty story lines. The anime follows a boy named Eren Yeager in an alternate world overrun by massive creatures known as Titans.

These mindless beasts have all but wiped out humanity, and mankind is left to cower in fear behind massive walls. When their sanctum is infiltrated by a slew of Titans, Eren and his friends Armin and Mikasa join the military to help eradicate the blood-thirty monsters. But, as they grow older, they learn that the beasts are not what they appear as long-held government conspiracies make themselves known.
