HawaiiCon Blasts Off In September

Tickets are now on sale for HawaiiCon, Hawaii's sci-fi and fantasy convention taking place September 12-14, 2014 at the Hapuna Beach Prince Resort. HawaiiCon will offer the usual panels and workshops expected from a genre convention, but also unique opportunities to experience Hawaii by taking tours, attending a lu'au, taking a hula lesson or just going to the beach. HawaiiCon founder, GB Hajim, says, "We want to create a unique event that will set us apart from other Cons, to give folks the feeling of ʻOhana, teach sustainability, respect for the ʻaina and an inspirational experience that can only be found through the adventures that the Big Island offers." Stars attending the convention include most of the cast from Stargate: Atlantis (appearing for a 10th year reunion), Claudia Christian and Patricia Tallman from Babylon 5, Richard Hatch, Michael Hogan and Kate Vernon from Battlestar Galactica, Esme Bianco from Game of Thrones, and voice actress Cree Summer from Drawn Together. Writer Jane Espenson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica) will be attending panels and running a writing workshop, and there will be a 78th birthday celebration, with special guests, for Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the original Star Trek.
