Guillermo del Toro is one of the current generation of filmmakers most iconic visionary directors. With projects such as Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak, and Pan's Labyrinth displaying his ability to convey gigantic, mythic, and vibrant worlds, it would be a geek dream come true to see the director run the show on anything comic book related.

The first step towards such an event was reached when del Toro teamed up with Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim for Trollhunters, a new animated series. Guggenheim and the cast and crew of Trollhunters are laregly impressed by del Toro's ability to direct given his resume and the work they collectively teamed up for.

Catching up with Guggenheim at New York Comic Con, ComicBook.com pondered the idea of del Toro heading to the Arrow-verse to direct an episode and, as it would turn out, we were not the first to think up such a subject.

"I'd be lying if I said I never broached the topic with him," Guggenheim says. "He's so busy and he is filming right now actually up in Toronto."

"He's got a standing invitation," Guggenheim concludes.

Accomplished directors from other TV shows or films stepping into the CW DC Comics world is not unheard of. For example, Kevin Smith directed a fan-favorite episode of The Flash in the show's second season and will return for an encore in the third.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on the CW. Del Toro and Guggenheim's Trollhunters will begin airing later this year.
