Exclusive DC Preview: Red Hood and the Outlaws #5

DC has provided ComicBook.com with an exclusive first look at next week's issue of Red Hood and the Outlaws from writer Scott Lobdell and artist Dexter Soy.

In the issue, the title's "Dark Trinity" storyline nears its conclusion as Artemis and Red Hood are chasing down Bizarro.

The series is the latest iteration in a long run of Lobdell-written series to star Jason Todd, the Red Hood and former Robin who has risen to prominence as one of DC's most popular antiheroes after having spent nearly 20 years dead. Here, he's joined by a troubled Amazon and an imperfect clone of Superman in what -- as the title of the story arc implies -- is kind of a broken-mirror reflection of DC's power trio of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

The Rebirth volume of Red Hood and the Outlaws -- which follows a New 52 volume of the same name, and then a short-lived Red Hood/Arsenal ongoing that led into both this series and Arsenal's appearance in Titans -- has thus far been the best received of Lobdell's takes critically, with particular praise coming for the voice he's been able to give Bizarro.

"DARK TRINITY" part five! Red Hood and Artemis team up against a rampaging Bizarro—and it's a race against the clock to save him—and the city—from Black Mask's mind-controlling techno-organic virus!

There's a little bit of irony here, of course, in the fact that Red Hood and the Outlaws scribe Scott Lobdell is probably most famous for his contributions to the X-Men titles in the 1990s -- a period where the phrase "techno-organic virus" was incredibly common.
