Wonder Woman Director Reveals Her Ideas For A Sequel

In a few months, fans won’t have to wait any longer for Wonder Woman. Warner Bros. is slated to debut the heroine’s first live-action solo venture in June, and the hype for Diana’s story has been growing amongst fans. Gal Gadot was tapped to bring the heroine to life under the direction of Patty Jenkins. And, in a recent interview, the director has just admitted she’s already got ideas brewing for a sequel.

Jenkins got to speak with the Toronto Sun recently, and it was there the director confessed she’s excited to undergo another Wonder Woman movie.

“I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero,” Jenkins revealed.

“I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.”

As for the first Wonder Woman flick, Jenkins said she was convinced that an origin story was the right story choice. The director said she grew up admiring Richard Donner’s iconic take on Superman, and it greatly influenced how she approached Wonder Woman.

“I always thought the origin story would be the great way to go,” she says. “I love origin superhero stories and I love the simplicity you can have with that journey. Also, there was the fact that no one had done her story and the fact that I love her. So it was a treasure trove of potential.”

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Joining Gadot in the international cast are Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. Patty Jenkins directs the film from a screenplay by Allan Heinberg and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder and Allan Heinberg, based on characters from DC Entertainment. Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston.

The DCEU continues when Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
