'Justice League' Movie Makes Major Change To Cyborg's Origin

The DC Extended Universe is taking some liberties with the origin of one member of the Justice League members.

New information revealed at a Justice League event taking place in the Philippines confirms that Victor Stone (Ray Fisher) suffered the injuries that would eventually lead to him becoming Cyborg has part of a car accident.

Here's the text from the Cyborg exhibit at the event:

Part man, part machine, Victor Stone is a former star athlete at Gotham City University. After a horrific car accident nearly cost him his life, he was saved when his father, scientist Silas Stone, used an Apokolitian Mother Box to reconstruct his body. In the process, Silas turned Victor into a human computer, organic with biomechatronic body parts. In other words, a Cyborg.

This DC Extended Universe origin for Cyborg is a departure from both his original DC Comics origin and the revamped New 52 origin. Both of those origin stories involve STAR Labs. The first summoned a monster from another universe that severely mutilated Victor's body.

The second involved an exploding Father Box from Apokolips. Considering the DC Extended Universe Cyborg's connection to Apokoliptian tech, it is at least a little surprising that the Justice League movie isn't sticking with that origin, though the new version isn't too far off and adds a bit of random tragedy to the mix

This is the second bit of interesting character backstory information to come out to the Philippines event, following the previous revelation that the Flash is still a student in Justice League.
