Back for more Punisher comics?! Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Fury) just can’t get enough of them.

The 38-year-old actor is fully committed to giving the best Frank Castle/Punisher performance possible. To prepare for the role, Bernthal went to Hypno Comics (Ventura,CA) last week and picked up some Punisher comics. He then made a return visit to the shop on Sunday.

“Jon Bernthal liked the stuff I gave him to read, hooked up again today,” said shop owner George Chase. “He’s doing his work! It feels good to know I’m helping my favorite Superhero show in some small way.”

As you can see, Bernthal grabbed himself a copy of PunisherMAX (2010) #16, written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Steve Dillon. That’s the story where Punisher is locked in solitary confinement while a prison riot is taking place. During it, he reflects on the final moments he shared with his family before they were killed in a hail of bullets.

George has in his hands – which I’m sure ended up in Jon’s hands – the first Punisher miniseries, “Circle of Blood” (1986). The 5-part series was re-published in 2008 in a hardcover edition (George is holding). It was written by Steven Grant and Mary Jo Duffy and illustrated by Mike Zeck and Mike Vosburg. In this story, Punisher falsely claims to have killed The Kingpin, and this sets off an all out turf war between the other criminal elements in the city. When the dust settles, it finally dawns on Punisher that violence begets violence.

Daredevil will return to Netflix for Season 2 in 2016.
