The filmmakers behind The Good Dinosaur are using today's close encounter with the "Halloween Asteroid" to remind everyone that the premise of their film -- alternate Earth where the dinosaur-killing asteroid missed its target -- isn't that far-fetched.

The skull-shaped asteroid, which actually appears to be a dead comet, zoomed past the Earth today, however, on closest approach it was still 300,000 miles away. For comparison, our moon is 238,900 miles from Earth. If an impact occurred it would've caused substantial damage as it's 2,000 feet wide and traveling at 78,000 miles per hour. Be happy it missed.

"This whole thing started off with the idea: What if the asteroid that theoretically wiped out all the dinosaurs 65 million years ago missed? What would have happened?" asks director Peter Sohn. "We had a lot of fun evolving the dinosaurs. Herbivores became farmers; carnivores became ranchers."

Check it out in the video below.

The Good Dinosaur asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of.

Pixar's The Good Dinosaur stomps into theaters November 25, 2015.
