While Ghost in the Shell hasn’t had the smoothest of transitions to film, it is moving along at a brisk enough pace, and the crew found some time to invite some iconic talent to the set.

That talent came in the form of Director Mamoru Oshii, Director and Writer Kenji Jamiyama, and Composer Kenji Kawaii. The three have been instrumental in the previous Ghost in the Shell adaptations, and their approval of the newest project could help turn some opinions.

Production I.G. shared a photo of the three on their twitter account alongside some of the cast, including star Scarlett Johanssen, with the following caption.

“Thanks to the GITS cast&crew for having M.Oshii, K.Kawai, K.Kamiyama on set & for their respect towards their work.”

Many fans are hopeful that the three will give their seal of approval, but more will need to be seen from the actual film before more fans are won over. Still, the three hold a great deal of clout. Oshii was the director of the original Ghost in the Shell animated film, and went on to make two other Ghost films, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence and Ghost in the Shell 2.0. He worked right alongside Kawaii, who scored all three of his movies. As for Jamiyama, he worked on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. Solid State Society 3D.

Most of the criticism towards the film is centered on casting, as we’ve only really seen one official photo and some behind the scenes shots. Only time will tell if the film will do the franchise justice.
