When Daniel Radcliffe turned 11, he received what most kids have only dreamt of getting: an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Cast as the boy wizard for his birthday, I’m sure every other birthday since then has paled in comparison, but that won’t stop us from wishing the actor a very happy birthday today. Born July 23rd 1989, Daniel became the only child of Alan and Marcia Radcliffe. The couple had come from humble acting roots, and Daniel quickly become interested in theater at a young age. He made his acting debut at age 10 in BBC One’s David Copperfield before the actor landed the role of a lifetime with Harry Potter. Cast as the lead wizard, Daniel rocketed into international stardom as the franchise enthralled fans all over the world.
Despite debuting at a young age, Daniel has accepted fame with poise alongside fellow cast mates Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. The trio grew up on Harry Potter‘s elaborate sets, and the group was understandably distraught when the final Harry Potter film was released in July 2011. However, Daniel has gone on to star in various other film and stage productions which have solidified the actor’s lauded reputation.
Daniel stunned theater fanatics when he starred in Peter Shaffer’s Equus in London’s West End, and the actor had his Broadway debut in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying not long after. Post-Harry Potter, Daniel went on to star in The Woman In Black as well as Kill Your Darlings, The F Word, Frankenstein, and Swiss Army Man.
While Daniel prefers to keep his private life away from the public’s prying eyes, the actor has been vocal about his support for the LGBTQ community and various hospice charities for sick children.
Happy Birthday, Daniel! We hope it’s a magical one!
