Breck Eisner, the direct of The Crazies, Sahara and The Last Witch Hunter, has been hired by Paramount Pictures to helm the next Friday the 13th movie, according to Deadline.

The new Friday the 13th movie is being produced by Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form. Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski wrote the latest script.

From what we know about the film, it will be an origin tale, delving deeper into Jason Voorhees's family tree. What's that mean? Well, we'll finally get to meet his daddy. Neato!

By the way, Eisner is also the son of Michael Eisner, who formerly ran Paramount and Disney. It's interesting because his father "ran Paramount during the days when the Friday the 13th rights were acquired."

In December 2009, a sequel was being developed by Paramount and New Line, written by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, but it was nixed in 2010 before filming ever started. In 2013, Warner Bros., the parent company of New Line, traded away their rights to the franchise, and a week later, Paramount announced a partnership with Platinum Dunes on a new Friday the 13th movie. In early 2015, V/H/S director David Bruckner was brought in to helm the film, based on a script by Nick Antosca (NBC's Hannibal), but both of them moved on to other projects.

The next Friday the 13th movie was scheduled for release on Jan. 13, 2017; however, that date is no longer a lock.
