It’s almost fall, which means that all our favorite comic book TV shows will be back with new episodes in the very near future. The fall premiere season starts in earnest in mid-September, but new and returning shows will debut well into October.
With so many comic book shows currently on the air, it’s hard to keep track of when old favorites are returning. Luckily, we’ve assembled this guide to every returning comic book show debuting this fall, along with when to keep an eye out for new shows based on your favorite comics.

Arrow
Premiere Date: October 5, at 8 PM/7 PM Central on The CW.
What Happened Last Season: Team Arrow suffered a major loss after Black Canary died in the battle against Damien Darhk. Green Arrow got his revenge on Darhk and killed him in last season’s finale, but Diggle and Thea both quit Team Arrow in the aftermath.
What Happens Next: As Team Arrow begins training a new generation of superheroes (which includes Wild Dog, Artemis, and Mr. Terrific), a new crime cabal led by Tobias Church and Prometheus threatens Star City. We’ll also see Vigilante, Ragman, and the Human Target this season, as well as flashbacks to Oliver’s time working with the Russian Bratva.
The Flash
Premiere Date: October 4, at 8 PM/7 PM Central on The CW.
What Happened Last Season: After defeating Zoom and stopping his plot to destroy the multiverse, Barry travels back in time to save his mother, thus altering the timeline and creating a “Flashpoint” universe in which Barry never got his powers and both his parents are still alive.
What Happens Next: Barry tries to grapple with the unintended consequences of his time-altering actions in a familiar but strange alternate timeline. If he can reverse his damage to the timestream, he’ll have to deal with a new big bad, the speedster Savitar, as well as Doctor Alchemy.
Legends of Tomorrow
Premiere Date: October 13, at 8 PM/7 PM Centralย on The CW.
What Happened Last Season: The Legends stopped Vandal Savage and destroyed the corrupt Time Masters organization thanks to the sacrifice of Captain Cold. After defeating Savage, the Hawks left the team just before Hourman arrived in a second time ship to warn them about their future.
What Happens Next: The Legends will be adding at least one more full-time member in Vixen (who is actually the grandmother of the Vixen seen last season on Arrow) as well as meeting members of the Justice Society of America. The team will also have two new threats to face: a Thanagarian invasion that could wipe out a future already ravaged by Vandal Savage and the Legion of Doom, whose roster includes the surprising return of Captain Cold.
Supergirl
Premiere Date: October 10, at 8 PM/7 PM Centralย on The CW.
What Happened Last Season: Supergirl stopped a small Kryptonian army led by Non, blinding him in the process. As her and her friends celebrated their victory, a second rocket from Krypton crashed into National City, adding a familiar face to the fold.
What Happens Next: Supergirl and Alex will try to find Alex’s father Jeremiah, who was recently revealed as alive and in the hands of Project Cadmus. Superman and Mon-El will also guest star. We’ll also see if the CW finds a way to bring Supergirl’s world into the “Arrowverse” or if she’ll remain in a parallel universe to the rest of DC’s superhero shows.
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Premiere Date: September 20, at 10 PM/9 PM Central on ABC.
What Happened Last Season: The team stopped the ancient evil Inhuman Hive (who had taken over Grant Ward’s deceased body) but at the cost of Lincoln, Daisy’s lover and fellow Inhuman. The show then jumped six months forward, with Daisy on the run and S.H.I.E.L.D. under new management.
What Happens Next: Ghost Rider is coming this season, as are Life Model Decoys, highly advanced human replicas created by Holden Radcliffe. No word on who or what the show’s new “big bad” will be, but Marvel has hinted that SHIELD’s new director might be a threat to the team.
The Walking Dead
Premiere Date: October 23, at 9 PM/8 PM Centralย on AMC.
What Happened Last Season: After wiping out a group claiming to be the Saviors, Rick and many of his friends were captured by Negan and the real Saviors. Negan introduced one member of Rick’s group to his bat Lucille in bloody fashion, although viewers didn’t get a glimpse of who the unlucky victim was.
What Happens Next: War with the Saviors is coming. Rick and whoever else survived their last encounter with Negan will turn to the Kingdom and its mysterious leader Ezekiel for aid. Expect plenty more casualties this season.
Gotham
Premiere Date: September 19, at 8 PM/7 PM Centralย on Fox.
What Happened Last Season: Gordon and his allies stopped Hugo Strange’s experiments in Arkham, but not before a bus containing a group of “monsters” created by Strange is unleashed on the city. Those monsters include a resurrected Fish Mooney and a boy who looks eerily similar to Bruce Wayne.
What Happens Next: The Mad Hatter is coming to Gotham, as is the Court of Owls. We’ll also see an older Poison Ivy, aged up due to an encounter with one of Strange’s monsters.
Lucifer
Premiere Date: September 19, at 9 PM/8 PM Centralย on Fox.
What Happened Last Season: After a deadly confrontation with Malcolm, Lucifer agrees to go back to work for God in exchange for Chloe’s safety. God’s task: work with his brother Amenadiel to recapture the soul of their mother.
What Happens Next: Lucifer’s mother Charlotte will upend Lucifer’s world, as will the arrival of a new foresnic scientist who has a strong belief in both faith and science.
New Shows To Watch
In addition to returning favorites, the upcoming television series will add several new comic book shows to the schedule. The first new comic series isย Luke Cage,ย which will be released in its entirety on September 30 on Netflix.ย
Other new comic book series out later this year include Riverdale, the CW’s sexy take on Archie and his friends, the NBC comedyย Powerless, which is set in the DC universe, and Legion, the FX series starring a mutants whose powers change with each multiple personality he develops.
