The comedy thriller Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, penned by Max Landis and based on wildly popular novels by Douglas Adams (A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), will debut next month, and now, BBC America has released a pair of promos introducing the eccentric "holistic" detective Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett) and his reluctant assistant Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood).

"To be a truly great detective, you need many things. Grit. Bravery. Dignity," Gently says as a series of shots show he lacks those aforementioned qualities. "I'm a... pretty good detective."

"People always used to tell me I was my own worst enemy," Brotzman says before a series of shots show him getting assaulted by several threatening individuals. "Yeah. That's not true anymore."

Welcome to the world of BBC AMERICA's Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency; a trippy mystery that thrusts a reluctant sidekick into the bizarre world of an unconventional detective who believes in the interconnectedness of all things. When washed-up rocker Todd Brotzman (Elijah Wood) stumbles upon the murder scene of a millionaire, all hell breaks loose. Eccentric detective, Dirk Gently (Samuel Barnett), wholly believes they're destined to untangle the peculiar events surrounding the mystery together, whether Todd likes it or not! A collection of wild and dangerous characters' further infiltrate and complicate their world, each episode landing them a few random steps closer to uncovering the truth.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency premieres Saturday, October 22 at 9/8c on BBC America.
