John Wick: Chapter 2 is the sequel to the surprise hit John Wick, which aired in 2014. Keanu Reeves starred as John Wick‘s title character, a retired hitman who wages a one man war against the Russian mob after members steal his vintage car and kill his beloved puppy dog. The movie ended with Wick adopting a new dog, which Lionsgate confirmed would make an appearance in the sequel.
Reeves will return for John Wick: Chapter 2, as will his co-stars Lance Riddick and Ian McShane. Joining the cast of John Wick: Chapter 2 is Reeve’s Matrix co-star Laurence Fishburne as well as Common, John Leguizamo, and Ruby Rose. Chad Stahelski is also returning to direct the sequel.
Wick won’t be avenging his puppy in the sequel, but he does come out of retirement to help a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers. Although action will once again be a focus in John Wick 2, Stahelski also said he wanted to expand the world of the movie.
John Wick: Chapter 2 will have a big presence at New York Comic Con, and it’s expected that Lionsgate will debut new footage from the upcoming movie.
Lionsgate is hoping that John Wick: Chapter 2 will be as big of a hit as the first movie. John Wick earned over $86 million at the box office, far exceeding expectations and its $20 million budget.
