Luke Cage, the latest Marvel television series on Netflix, is far from being a family sit-com. In fact, Luke Cage is a dark and gritty crime drama with a powerful message and brutal violence – all set to a hip hop score in the rough streets of Harlem.
However, if you splice the few scenes of the main characters smiling, hugging, and high-fiving into a montage, the street-level superhero series could easily be mistaken for a classic ’90s sitcom. A fan turned Luke Cage into Family Matters by using the perfect happy moments from the series to introduce each character. Even the show’s heartless villains like Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali) and Black Mariah (Alfre Woodard) look innocent and cheery!
The parody intro shows most of the cast joyfully arriving through doorways (which an overused sit-com gimmick back in the ’90s) a loving moment between Claire Temple and Luke, Pop putting money in his infamous swear jar, and finally ends with Luke and Pop sitting down to chill in front of Switzerland.
This could actually work.
