Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 is one of the most highly-anticipated superhero films of 2017 – not to mention being a sequel to one of fans’ favorite solo films.

One of the biggest standouts of Guardians of the Galaxy was Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer, and all his literal humor. But according to director James Gunn, fans should get ready for Drax to steal the show in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2.
Gunn was doing a Q&A on Facebook, in which a fan asked what the funniest thing was that Bautista did on set. Gunn’s response was that “Everything is funny. He’s the funniest character in Vol 2. Bradley Cooper just saw the movie and talked about how he’s like Zack Galifinakis in The Hangover (in that he kills every line he has).”
Like so many things with Guardians of the Galaxy, it was impossible to know how Drax’s unique, offbeat brand of humor would play with the viewers who were used to a more traditional superhero movie formula. But, like so many things with Guardians of the Galaxy, it worked; so why not play to that strength?
From Gunn’s response, it doesn’t just seem like the script material is hilarious (and one expects that it’s pretty funny); it seems like Bautista delivers a great comedic performance, which should continue to surprise those who were skeptical about the former wrestler/fighter making the jump to acting.
