Power Rangers is getting a reboot thanks to Lionsgate’s 2017 blockbuster movie relaunch, directed by Project Almanac helmer, Dean Israelite.
Power Rangers (2017) has a mix of some fresh faces (the five heroic Power Rangers) and some big name talent (Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Banks as villain Rita Replusa); however, there was one franchise alum who would’ve liked to make a comeback in the new film: Amy Jo Johnson, aka the original Pink Ranger from the ’90s Power Rangers TV series.

Speaking with THR about her evolving career, Johnson shared an anecdote about the upcoming Power Rangers movie, saying, “I really wanted to be Rita, but Elizabeth Banks got that part. I think I would have made a fantastic Rita. Or some crazy villain.”
Obviously the filmmakers went with a more high-profile cast to make the film, but having former franchise faces like Johnson make cameo appeances in the movie would be a nice Easter egg for fans of the ’90s series. In fact, it tends to be a tradition in movie reboots of once-popular TV shows to have the original cast members show up. 21 Jump Street did it, Baywatch is doing it, so it seems odd that Johnson would be so willing, and yet unable to appear in the film.
…There’s always time to shoot a bonus scene before release day. Hint.
