In Venom #1 fans met the new wielder of the black symbiote, and issue #2 furthers the internal discord between the two entities.

Writer Mike Costa has already communicated that Lee Price is not a stand-up citizen, but the most interesting part of this new relationship between the host and the suit is just how opposed to violence the symbiote has become. The time with Flash Thompson has changed its viewpoint on things, and it continues to halt Price’s progress at every opportunity.
There’s never been a take on Venom quite like this, and that alone is worth a second look. By book’s end, the two are talking in a much more conversational tone, but they’re no closer to an agreement than when they first met. It will be interesting to see what else the symbiote will do to get in Lee’s way and if they are all as humorous as one particular scene here, well then readers are in for a fun ride.
The lively art of Gerardo Sandoval is a perfect fit as well, and together with Costa’s unique take on the symbiote they’ve managed to give an alien suit a legitimate personality. It’s also worth noting how delightful it is to see a little venom talking to Lee in the background, like during Lee’s conversation with Black Cat. Almost like having an alien Jiminy Cricket that can demolish an entire room if it so pleases. Okay, so maybe not so much like Jiminy.
In fact, the best thing about Venom is the symbiote. The problem is that once Lee starts talking to anyone other than the symbiote, things fall a little flat. Lee isn’t that interesting of a character and doesn’t aspire to much either once he gets the suit. So far there isn’t anything particularly deep about him, and the team will need to develop that further to really hit the potential this book has.
Venom continues to be a pleasant surprise and offers a unique take on a classic character, and the symbiote has never been more interesting, only weighed down by its rather boring host.
