New York City, December 7, 2016- Alien: Covenant‘s showcase event kicks off with an introductory video from director Ridley Scott.

The video message from Scott turns to a few clips from Alien: Covenant.

The ship approaches another planet, with several others seen in the background. They prepare for landing. The crew straps in for landing, debating on how difficult it will be. They count down their launch before being released. A crew in the mothership radios with them. They exchange a few jokes before being directed to maintain focus.

The ship passes through a lightning storm on its descent. The signal is lost. It’s a rough ride down but the pilots claim to have it. They break through the clouds and finally see some sun.

In a clip from later in the film, the mothership tries to communicate. A group out on land is calling out for help as they struggle to make their way back. One man throws up a large amount of blood on a woman from the crew. He can hardly walk. The others startled. The last woman to board takes her gloves off and leaves them outside of the ship.

The struggling man is rushed through the ship’s hallway and into a medical bay. Up top, the team listens to their radios but gets no responses. One woman rips open his shirt and sees something moving near his spine. She locks him and the other woman into the infirmary. Danny McBride’s character radios back and tries to calm her down. She looks through the window of the room with the sick man in it. Spikes pertrude from his spine before something completely climbs out and he dies. The woman locked inside begs to let out but is not. An alien baby, the Neomorph species, begins crawling toward her. Ferris calls for help, saying there is something on board.

The other part of the team is struggling to get back as they have someone injured with them, as well. When they hear the screams from the woman being attacked by the Neomorph baby, they start to run.

Ferris enters with a gun but slips on the blood and shoots the ceiling. She closes the door on her foot by accident and limps away after freeing it. The Neomorph gives chase. She picks up another gun and tries to shoot it but misses a few times. One shot causes a massive explosion. The Neomorph runs off of the ship just before it explodes, completely destroyed. The crew sees the explosion. Another man tweaks out in the field just as the first man with the alien inside of him did earlier. Michael Fassbender observes calmly as others try to calm the victim.

An alien emerges from his mouth in a swarm of blood and guts.

Another clip shows crew members arguing.

Katherine Waterston takes the stage.

“It’s our responsibility to protect the two thousand colonists on this ship,” a character says. It’s a teaser trailer packed with action and some forrifying drama and a ship crashing. “I think if we are kind, it will be a kind world,” Fassbender says.

Katherine Waterston takes the stage, admitting that the footage shown was extremely violent. It’s her first reaction to the footage as she has not seen it before. She later says that Ridley Scott has been putting women in key roles in movies for a long time.

“I haven’t been properly debriefed yet on this movie and I’m not sure what I can share,” Waterston says. The ship they were on was really rocking around, some cast members had whiplash. Her character is questioning leadership a bit.

“They’re colonists. They’re scientists. Amy is a pilot. They’re not military experts or anything. They’re all civilians. There are some military dudes around to protect us. Most of the pople on the ship are couples and then there are all these colonists who are in a cryo sleep.

As for whether or not Waterston talked with Sigourney Weaver about her character or Ridley Scott to keep them similar right down to the hair cut — she did not.

“We never really talked about it,” Waterston said. “I, obviously I love her and I love what she did, and there are obvious parallels like she had the good instinct about some things in the first film and she also found her courage in a way that is similar but we never talked about that. Actually, the haircut was my idea because I had this goofy bob from Fantastic Beasts and Ridley kind of liked it and I thought I just can’t be this goofy flawed witch in space.”

To end the Alien: Covenant presentation, the first trailer plays.
