Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, fans can now commiserate with actress Daisy Ridley who recently released a statement about Fisher’s passing. “Devastated at this monumental loss,” Ridley wrote. “How lucky we all are to have known her, and how awful that we have to say goodbye.”

For many years, Fisher was the main female lead in the Star Wars universe alongside co-stars Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford. When Ridley was brought in to play Rey in the new Star Wars trilogy, Fisher said she was glad to have more female empowerment on the set.

“It’s good to have a little help,” Fisher said at last year’s Star Wars Celebration. “I liked being the only one when I was 19โ€ฆ Now, I need some backup.”

Right now, everyone’s thoughts and prayers are with Fisher’s family and loved ones during this trying time. Fisher is survived by her daughter Billie Lourd. In the coming days, fans will learn more about Fisher’s passing and what it means for the Star Wars franchise. Sources have confirmed that Carrie Fisher did wrap shooting on Star Wars: Episode VIII prior to her passing, but for now, fans are taking their time to mourn the tragic loss and honor Fisher’s enduring legacy. When the film comes out later this year, audiences will get to see Ridley and Fisher reunited once more in a galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is written and directed by Rian Johnson, continuing the saga films. Star Wars expands their universe with Rogue One, the first of their new standalone movies that take place without a focus on anyone named Skywalker.
