In a world filled with comic book movies, it takes something special to standout. Movie theaters feel like they’ve been filled up with superhero flicks and supernatural once-overs, but one adaptation managed to break the mold with its live-action debut. Back in 2014, Kingsman: The Secret Service made its way into theaters in a hilarious bloody way that left moviegoers rolling. Now, a sequel is well-underway, but is that all there will be? In a recent interview with Den of Geek, the films’ star spoke out about whether he felt a sequel was in the cards or not.

During promotions for his work on Sing, Taron Egerton was asked about his on-going part in the Kingsman franchise. When asked if fans are going to get a Kingsman 3, here is what the British star had to say:

“Matthew [Vaughn] is a very much ‘Don’t count the chickens before they’ve hatched’ kind of guy, but he also has a real sense of Kingsman being his baby and he won’t jeopardise it with a crap idea,” he explained.

“So it depends what occurs, and whether it feels right to him, but I don’t think for a second that either he or myself, the lovely people at Fox and whoever else is interested in Kingsman, wouldn’t completely love it if this is a continuing series.”

This is not the first time Egerton has invoked the director’s name into the conversation about Kingsman‘s franchise potential. Last year, the actor talked with Collider about the sequel and reiterated Vaughn’s interest in quality.

“I remember when we finished the first one I was like, ‘This is a franchise right?’ and [Vaughn] said, ‘Well it depends on the first one. I’m not doing it unless the script is right.’ And he went away and him and Jane Goldman, his writing partner, wrote a really bloody good script. That’s always the most important thing; good director, good script, you’re on your way. It was hard, it was a tough shoot, it always is on that thing, but I think it’s gonna be amazing.”

Kingsman: The Golden Circle is directed by Matthew Vaughn with Dave Gibbons, Jane Goldman, and Mark Millar on writing duties. The film stars Taron Egerton (Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin), Julianne Moore (Poppy), Colin Firth (Harry Hart), Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal (Jack Daniels), Mark Strong (Merlin), Halley Berry (Ginger), Vinnie Jones, and Sophie Cookson (Roxy).
