Doctor Strange opened in its final territory this weekend, taking the top spot in the Japanese box office.
Director Scott Derrickson's mind-bending trip through parallel realities with the Sorcerer Supreme raked in $4.5 million on its opening weekend in Japan, according to Exhibitor Relations.
The Benedict Cumberbatch-led film bumps its worldwide total to $644 million, taking in $433 million in the international markets.
Marvel Studios have to be happy with this performance, possibly kickstarting another new franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This can only increase the chances of a sequel, which Scott Derrickson expressed that he'd very much like to make. He might even have an idea or two to go with it.
