Everything We Know About Stranger Things Season 2

Stranger Things was one of the surprise hits of 2016, and it is returning for more in 2017.

Stranger Things Season 2 will debut on Netflix this fall, but information about the next season of the hit series is already making its way onto the internet.

Considering all of the excitement that followed the release of the Stranger Things Season 2 trailer, we thought we’d round up everything we know about the new series so far.

When Does It Take Place?

Stranger Things is a period piece set in the 1980s. The entire first season took place in November 1983.

Stranger Things Season 2 won’t stray far. Stranger Things Season 2 will take place nearly one year after the events of Stranger Things Season 1, on and around Halloween of 1984.

 

What Is The New Season About?

The plot of Stranger Things Season 1 kicked off when Will Byers went missing after being sucked into the Upside Down.

Season 2 will deal with the after effects of Will’s time in that other dimension, as hinted at by the scene in the first season finale in which Will coughs up slugs and sees the Upside Down again.

Stranger Things Season 2 will see the town of Hawkins trying desperately to return to normal. Sheriff Hopper is given the uncomfortable task of promoting that sense of normalcy while covering up everything he knows about what really happened.

Meanwhile, Will is dealing with a kind of post-traumatic stress from his time in the Upside Down, and Joyce is doing everything she can to comfort him.

 

What About Eleven?

Stranger Things Season 1 introduced the world to Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, a young girl who had been experimented on by an organization seeking to take advantage of her telepathic and telekinetic powers.

Eleven found her way into viewers hearts as she bonded with Mike, his friends, and Eggo waffles. Then she sacrificed herself in order to save Hawkins from the Demogorgon.

Or so it seemed. The Duffer brothers have confirmed that Eleven will return in Stranger Things Season 2, and she has been seen on the cover of Entertainment Weekly with a curly new hairdo.

While the Duffers have avoided getting too specific in order to avoid spoiling the coming season, they have said that Eleven will play a major role in Stranger Things Season 2 and that the season will reveal more of her backstory and of the history of the program that was experimenting on her.

 

Newcomers

Part of the shakeup of Stranger Things Season 2 will be the new characters who arrive in Hawkins.

Primary among them is the brother and sister duo of Max (Sadie Sink) and older brother Billy (Dacre Montgomery). Max will befriend Mike and his friends, much like Eleven did in the first season, but Billy is being teased an antagonistic character.

Other new characters include Dr. Owens (Paul Reiser), a Department of Energy employee tasked with running the lab where Eleven was being kept.

Bob Newby (Sean Astin) is an old classmate of Joyce and Hopper who now runs the local RadioSchack. He’ll become romantically involved with Joyce, and therefore at odds with Hopper.

Roman (Linnea Berthelsen) is a woman who was emotionally damaged as a child, and who made her way to Hawkins due to the events of Stranger Things Season 1.

Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman) is a former reporter and conspiracy theorist who finds himself in Hawkins while investigating a cold case.

 

What Are The Episode Titles And When Can I Watch Them?

When Netflix first announced that Stranger Things was getting a second season, they did it with a video that appeared to reveal the titles for each fo the season’s nine episodes.

The Duffer Bros. have since said that some of those titles are not final, but that they were used to deliberately obscure certain important plot points. Be that as it may, the episode titles announce were:

1. “Madmax”
2. “The Boy Who Came Back to Life”
3. “The Pumpkin Patch”
4. “The Palace”
5. “The Storm”
6. “The Pollywog”
7. “The Secret Cabin”
8. “The Brain”
9. “The Lost Brother”

The episode will debut on Netflix on Halloween, Oct. 31, 2017.

 

Will There Be More?

When Stranger Things first aired, it was unclear if the series was meant to be a limited run or an ongoing adventure, which may be a credit to how well the first season wrapped up.

Fans were thrilled to learn that more Stranger Things was in the works, but now they’re wondering how long the series will be around for. Is this an indefinitely ongoing affair?

No so much. The Duffer Bros. have stated that they plan for Stranger Things to run for four or five seasons, assuming that the show’s popularity does not wane, though they were clear that this plan is not set in stone.
