With the musical crossover between The Flash and Supergirl just a few weeks away, fans are finally getting some clues as to what the plot of the ambitious episode will be – and how the talented cast members of both shows will have a hand in it.

The episode’s synopsis has already clarified that the musical numbers will occur in a dream sequence shared by Kara Danvers/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin).

Apparently, the dream sequence is structured like an old Hollywood film, all of which is orchestrated by the Music Meister (Darren Criss).

And now, a recent report from Entertainment Weekly revealed exactly where the other characters will factor into that elaborate plot.

“In a nod to Kara’s favorite film, Wizard of Oz, everyone else in the vocally impressive cast is playing a character within this movie, from Jesse L. Martin, Victor Garber, and John Barrowman as rival mob bosses to Jeremy Jordan‘s club pianist and Carlos Valdes‘ aspiring artist busboy.”

Garber and Barrowman playing rivals is particularly ironic, given the fact that they play characters on opposing teams on Legends of Tomorrow.

And with Jordan and Valdes’ past experience on the Great White Way – starring in award-winning shows such as Newsies and Once – both of their roles in the episode feel ripped right out of a Broadway musical.

Apparently, this is entirely intentional, as the episode will reportedly draw heavy inspiration from popular movie musicals such as West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, and Singing in the Rain.

Fans will only have to wait until March 21st to see these unique interpretations of their favorite characters in action.

DARREN CRISS (“GLEE”) GUEST STARS AS THE MUSIC MEISTER IN THE FLASH AND SUPERGIRL MUSICAL CROSSOVER โ€“ Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon-El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her.

However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end.

Dermott Downs directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing (#317). Original airdate 3/21/2017.
