Ahead of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘s release on Blu-ray and DVD, Lucasfilm has been teasing some of the special features that will be packed on the disc when it hits stores.

One of those segments will focus on Forest Whitaker‘s character Saw Gerrera, who aided Felicity Jones’ character Jyn Erso in the first Star Wars spinoff film.
Gerrera wasn’t a new creation in the Star Wars universe, as he was first created by George Lucas for the Clone Wars animated series.
His rebellious guerrilla tactics were on full display in that show, sowing the seeds for what he’d later become. In those episodes, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the Clone Trooper Rex train Saw and his sister in advanced warfare in an attempt to prepare them for battle against the Separatists.
In Rogue One, the character had splintered from the main Rebel Alliance due to his extreme views and actions. He was branded a terrorist and took refuge on Jedha, hiding out from Imperial forces while avoiding the Rebellion.

He is also featured on the latest season of Star Wars Rebels, meant to act as a prequel of sorts to Rogue One, and Saw is voiced by Forest Whitaker in this appearance.
“Because we came into Lucasfilm and found that George had already left some ideas behind, we thought, well what else could we do?” said Lucasfilm Storygroup creative executive Rayne Roberts.
Roberts said they included Saw Gerrera because it would “further legitimize the story inside the stories that have already been told.”
Pablo Hidalgo of the Storygroup added on to those sentiments.
“We see him as a broken person and you realize, this is what a lifetime of fighting the Empire can turn you into.”
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is now available on Digital HD. It will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 4.
